Overview
Video Ambient Light is a free browser extension that brings ambient lighting to YouTube and other video platforms. It extends the colors of the playing video into a soft, moving background that fills the entire page, creating an immersive viewing experience beyond the player frame.
Key Features
- Full-page ambient light: Colors from the video spread across the whole screen, not just around the player.
- Multi-platform support: Works on YouTube, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels.
- Customizable settings: Adjust glow intensity, page ambience, softness, spread, saturation, frame rate, and UI transparency.
- Per-platform toggles: Enable or disable the effect individually for each supported site.
- Privacy-focused: Runs locally on your device; no video uploads, no account required, no analytics.
- Resource-friendly: Lower frame rate or brightness to reduce CPU usage; background tabs stop drawing.
How It Works
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox add-ons.
- Play a video on a supported platform.
- The extension analyzes the video colors in real-time and projects them as a soft glow around the player.
- Use the popup to fine-tune the effect to your preference.
Use Cases
- Music videos: Enhance the atmosphere with colors that pulse with the beat.
- Gaming streams: Extend the game world beyond the screen for a more engaging experience.
- Shorts and Reels: Fill the empty space around portrait videos with dynamic color.
- Long watch sessions: Reduce eye strain with a gentle, adjustable glow.
